Installing a pet door would help you train and discipline them on how to properly go in and out of your house appropriately. With these pet doors, you can just leave them at home and just go back from work without worrying if they have ruined all your home accessories.

Pets proper behavior will also depend on their owner. When they think that their owner takes good care of them and knows how to properly discipline them, they will execute a proper behavior. They don’t want to be abused nor beaten and they always wanted to be rewarded and praised.

Executing the proper disciplinary action will make them realize the difference between right and wrong behavior. Hitting or kicking them while training is ineffective and not a good way to treat them and may even cause them to attack somebody.

So in order for your pet to respect and obey you or listen to your commands, you must perform the most proper training. Try it and you will be amazed how your pet reacts to your proper disciplinary actions.

Rope dog toys and rubber rings are always a bit hit with dogs that love to play fetch or tug-of-war. Playing “Frisbee” can also provide hours of entertainment for dogs and owners alike!

Dogs may also enjoy stuffed and furry toys, but be sure your pet cannot get at the stuffing inside as it can be a serious choking hazard. Toy birds and mice have traditionally proven to be very entertaining for cats. They especially seem to like the ones attached to string that you can pull and entice your furry feline to chase about!

They also seem to love simple cardboard boxes, tin-foil balls, and scrunched up newspaper! A recent favorite of cats and cat owners is the laser pointer. Cats never seem to tire from chasing that little red dot around, just be sure not to direct it at their eyes. The feather-and-pole type of toy is also very popular. Scratching posts are excellent forms of entertainment for cats, and they provide your cat something other than your furniture to dig their claws into! Hint: try sprinkling catnip on the post!!

When bringing a new kitten into your home keep in mind that they will be very playful and curious, which as we all know can at times get them into trouble. That’s why it is very important to kitten proof your home as much as possible. When you are in the process of kitten proofing your home keep in mind that a kitten has a much lower vantage point than you. Try and visualize what your kitten sees from its vantage point. Okay, lets take a look at some ideas to kitten proof your home.

• Make sure to secure all screens on windows, many kittens will enjoy sitting in a window and a lose screen can lead to a fall.
• Always make sure all cleaning supplies, paint, disinfectants, etc, are kept out of your kittens reach.
• Make sure to keep toilet lids closed. Kittens are attracted to the water and may want to drink from the bowl. The lid could close- trapping your kitten, not to mention the chemicals used to clean the toilet bowls are not healthy for your kitten.
• House plants are another potential problem. Many house plants can be hazardous to your kitten.
• A lesser known problem is plastic six pack holders. When you purchase beverages in a six pack form many times this is how they are packaged. Cut the holders apart to prevent trouble. This also helps to protect wildlife that may encounter this type of packing.
• Make sure medication is out of reach. Even aspirin, which we all have at home, can be dangerous.
• Dresser drawers, trunks, closets, all can be dangerous for kittens. They love to sleep in warm, dark places, which they can become trapped in.
• Sewing supplies also need to be kept out of reach. Buttons, needles, pins, thread, all could be swallowed, which is dangerous to your kitten.
• Everyone seems to think it is cute for a kitten to play with a ball of yarn. However this can be dangerous as it can become a choking hazard.
• Children’s toys contain many small parts that can be harmful.Electrical cords can be very hazardous, especially if you have a cat that enjoys chewing.
• Be careful when opening refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, etc. as some kittens may jump inside and become trapped.
• Plastic bags. We all bring these home from food stores, etc, they can become choking hazards and your kitten can also become trapped inside.
  
• Think of your kitten as a baby( basically they are) and what is not good for a new baby would not be good for a new kitten. This is a great rule of thumb.

This awareness of the risks tends to relax, though, after the child has reached the toddler stage, to be replaced by a consciousness of the positive benefits to the child of keeping a pet.Those who have lived with cats and especially kittens will know how common it is to be scratched and bitten by a playful pet. Most owners will minimize the risks, because in their experience nothing bad has ever come of a cat scratch. However, if people are better informed of the risks, they would not necessarily take these injuries so lightly. More than half all cat bites result in infection of some kind, most commonly from the Pasteurella multocida bacteria, which form part of the normal flora of cats.A local infection, at the site of the wound only, can lead to swelling or the formation of puss. This in itself is not always dangerous, but may lead to complications, perhaps with the joints becoming infected, or even the whole lymphatic system being invaded. Clearly those more at risk to such forms of infection are the very young, the elderly or those with suppressed immunosufficiency, such as cancer patients on medication and AIDS sufferers.Cat scratch disease is an infectious illness associated with cat scratches, bites, or exposure to cat saliva. The bacteria Afipia felis and Bartonella henselae do not necessarily provoke symptoms in the carrier cat. But complications arising from infections with these bacteria can lead to nasty complications in humans, not just locally where the skin has been torn. CSD is perhaps the most common cause of chronic lymph node swelling in children, a feverous infection lasting up to two months.Children under nine years of age are especially vulnerable to scratches and bites in the face and neck regions, most especially from kittens, which happen to be the most likely carriers of the Bartonella henselae group of organisms. Thus the advice is not to let children play too roughly with kittens – and any scratches or bites should be washed immediately with soap and warm water.Osteomyelitis or septic arthritis from cat bites is not uncommon. The synovial capsules of the joints are usually completely sterile and infection at these points is both extremely painful and potentially very harmful. Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis can affect any joint or bone, but most commonly involve the lower limbs. Both are most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus and require urgent treatment. The initial symptoms are tenderness and an unwillingness to use the joint or limb in question. Swelling and redness do not necessarily appear straight away.Some authorities claim that fleas carry B. henselae bacteria, but the evidence is not conclusive. Nevertheless, it makes sense to keep fleas in check to guard against unnecessary risks. Cats should never be allowed to lick any wounds you or your child may have, as the saliva is where the bacteria come from. If you or your child are bitten or scratched by a cat, at the first signs of any symptoms such as swelling, pustules, fatigue, fever, headache or swollen glands, consult your physician.
